• I reimaged my client's laptop and I am trying to download the drivers for the Universal Serial Bus Controller. I went on the dell website and tried downloading it but it still shows up as missing. Operating system: Windows 7 x64. I was also wondering if dell has put the correct drivers.

This issue can be caused if any of the following situations exist:

4. Your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt.

a. Do you receive and error message when the devices connected through USB ports stops working?

b. Do you see any exclamation mark in Device Manager under USB controllers? Refer to the steps to check:

1. Press Windows Key + R

2. Type devmgmt.msc.

3. See if you can see any exclamation mark under USB controllers in Device Manager.

c. Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

Please follow the methods mentioned below to fix this issue.

Use Device Manager to scan for hardware changes

Use Device Manager to scan for hardware changes. After your computer scans for hardware changes, it might recognize the USB device that is connected to the USB port so that you can use the device.

To scan for hardware changes, follow these steps:

2. Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.

3. In Device Manager, click your computer so that it is highlighted.

4. Click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.

Method 3: Restart the computer.

If scanning for new hardware did not fix the problem, try restarting the computer. After the computer has restarted, check the USB device to see whether it is working.

Method 4: Disable and re-enable the USB controller.

To disable and re-enable the USB controllers, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.

3. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right click a device and click Uninstall. Repeat for each device.

Once complete, restart your computer. Your USB controllers will automatically install.

If it doesn’t help, I would suggest you to go to the manufacturer website of your computer and install the latest chipset drivers and check.
