The Big /r/Fantasy Book Thread

This is the new official /r/Fantasy Book List Thread based on your suggestions in the old thread. It is by no means complete, and we are always looking for more reading suggestions. Please reply in this post with any other ideas for the list.

  • Author's name

  • Series and/or book's name

  • Any additional information or comments you want to provide --no spoilers

Book List Information:

Due to the length of the current list, it's broken into separate chunks for posting as replies. We should be able to combine it into one clean list again when the new Reddit Wiki goes online. Other notes about the list:

  • YA = Young Adult and/or Children's books

  • TBA = Publication year not yet announced

  • Ongoing series with large numbers of books are listed with only the first 6 titles.

Edit: Please note, this is not the 'final' version of the list, nor are the votes being tossed out. This is the first rework/compiling of the suggestions in an attempt to make a definitive /r/Fantasy listing. When the choices were sorted there were duplicates and inconsistencies. Vote counts did not illustrate a clear pattern. They were also not fair/comparable; for example, some votes were for different single books in a series, and others were on posts for the entire series. Ultimately even a simple split to show the very popular/high vote options didn't work because low-vote options were a small minority.

The plan is to use this combined, clearer listing as a foundation to gather the rest of the titles people like in this second pass. Then a fairer poll with options presented will be posted to generate the /r/Fantasy-specific recommendations. And finally all of this will be moved to the Wiki where it can be presented in different forms: By author, by votes, split for adult/younger readers, etc. So the votes did not go away, they just got tabled for the moment.
